The short version

• There are no accounts and no sign-up.
• Your practice progress is stored in your own browser and is never sent to us.
• We set no cookies and run no analytics.
• The only information we ever receive is what you type into the contact form.

What is stored in your browser

When you practice, the site saves two things using your browser's localStorage: your best score for each script, and a count of which kana you have answered incorrectly, so that those come back more often. This data sits on your device. It is not transmitted anywhere, we cannot read it, and it is not shared with anyone.

Clearing your browser's site data removes it. Doing so loses your progress, which is the only consequence.

Cookies and analytics

This site sets no cookies and runs no analytics or tracking scripts. There are no advertising networks, no social media pixels, and no third-party embeds on the pages.

If that changes we will update this page and say so plainly here before it takes effect.

The contact form

If you send us a message, we receive whatever you put in it: typically your name, your email address and the message itself. We use it to reply to you and for nothing else. We do not add you to a mailing list and we do not pass it to anyone for marketing.

The form is handled by Formspree, which processes the submission and forwards it to us. Your message passes through their systems and is subject to their privacy policy as well as this one. We do not use Formspree for anything other than this form.

Hosting and server logs

The site is served by a hosting provider that, like effectively every web host, keeps short-lived technical logs of requests: IP address, time, the page requested, and the browser making the request. These are generated by the infrastructure for security and reliability purposes. We do not use them to build any profile of you.

Children

The site is suitable for all ages and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, children included. Since there are no accounts and the only submission path is the contact form, there is nothing here that asks a child for personal details.

Your rights

Because we hold almost nothing, most data rights have little to act on. The progress data is yours and already on your device, so you can inspect or delete it at any time through your browser. If you have sent us a message and want it deleted, email us and we will delete it.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Material changes, particularly anything that starts collecting data we do not collect today, will be described here rather than quietly folded in.
